The Alabama Bass Trail 100 Series descended upon Lake Eufaula, Alabama—a storied fishery often hailed as the “Bass Capital of the World.” With its expansive 46,000-acre expanse and over 640 miles of shoreline, Eufaula offers anglers a prime setting for competitive bass fishing. The event featured 100 of the nation’s top bass fishing teams vying for a share of the $100,000 prize pool, including a guaranteed $25,000 first-place payout
During this event, Lake Eufaula was a testament to the skill and strategy of these 100 Teams. Anglers used a variety of techniques, from targeting post-spawn bass in deeper waters to capitalizing on the brim bed bite, to the shallow frog bite, showcasing the diverse approaches required to succeed on such a dynamic body of water.
With 21.43 pounds the first-place team of Todd Beaver and Kyle Sellers took home $25,000. They shared, “We caught around 50 fish throughout the day. This morning, we started fishing in shallow water and threw a frog around, but the recent drop in water levels really affected the bite. We managed to catch one fish using the Spro Hollow Belly frog, but we decided to move on.” Since the shallow bite was not really producing like they expected they decided to move to their deeper. “We went deeper and began using the Strike King 10XD. When they wouldn’t bite on that, we switched to a green pumpkin football jig. We nearly ran out of gas while covering so much water on the lake.”
Capitalizing on their 5th place finish in the ABT South Event here just a few weeks ago Zeke Gossett and Ethan King caught 21.02 for second place. The team shared, “Practice involved a lot of scanning as we committed to the deep bite. Just like in the ABT South Event, we didn’t go to the bank. We mixed up our spots between bush piles and ledges, but all our keepers came from the ledge bite. The bush piles weren’t as productive as the last time. There were many changes this week that really helped us; one key change was the water temperature. When we arrived, it was at 76 degrees, and by the end of practice, it had risen to 85 degrees. The key to finding those schools out on the ledges was the water temperature being in the 80s at night. They didn’t show up as well as we had anticipated, but there were still plenty out there. We experienced a bad rotation at daylight that caused us to miss being at the spot at the right time. However, after moving around a few times, we finally caught two five-pounders on our third stop, which helped us end up with over 18 pounds just from that one spot. We used a Strike King 10XD and a Strike King worm in green pumpkin.” For their second place finish they collected a $12,500 payday.
The third place team of Jason Thomason and Timmothy Hatcher took home $10,000 after catching 20.87 pounds. “We spent the entire week scanning the waters, starting on Tuesday, and we managed to identify about 30 potential schools of fish. However, we were only able to access around 5 of these spots today due to heavy boat traffic. Our focus was on areas just off the river ledge, where we found the fish about 200 yards from the ledge in depths ranging from 14 to 20 feet. At our first stop today, we caught two keepers right away. After making a key adjustment, Tim hooked a six-pounder using a Tim Hatcher Fatt Daddy Jig, which we refer to as “Big Nasty. We then decided to move a bit shallower, where we caught a 7-pounder on our homemade Jig, which we refer to as “Big Nasty,” in a green pumpkin blue color.”
The next stop of three for the ABT 100 will be on Wilson Lake November 1, 2025.
